So true. Thanks for writing this Anu. That might have been the most important trait of the 'shared news format' in TV 📺 like I remember when younger, once you started to talk politics or society news at lunch, everyone around the table could jump into the discussion having 'experienced' the same shared info the previous evening.

Of course, it lead to many other challenges -- but at least in terms of 'shared experience', it made the show itself a mandatory must-watch for everyone who'd like to engage / participate in discussions the next day.

Absolutely. Network TV, primetime lineups, popular shows -- all gave us some shared experience and shared references to connect over. Interestingly we've viewed it negatively for a while, but in the current siloed context, I think it's very valuable and shouldn't go extinct.
